26% Federal Tax Incentive Gets 2-Year Extension

As we finish out 2020, many of us have been anticipating new relief from the government to help us manage our financial struggles caused by COVID-19. The stimulus is just one form of relief that the government has been working on and a new bill has revealed a series of renewable energy changes coming to us this year. The investment tax credit is one of the largest aspects of these tax incentives. Included in this investment tax credit are substantial credits that extend towards solar installations. The U.S. Congress was talking about abolishing the current levels of tax credits for solar installations but they have chosen to extend the federal solar tax credit to meet the needs of many people that have been interested in installing new solar throughout their homes.

2020 Federal Solar Tax Credit Extensions

The tax credit was set to drop from 26% to 22% in 2021 but the rates will continue at the 26% mark for the next two years. Solar projects in every sector including industrial, commercial, and residential will continue to receive the 26% tax credit into 2021 and 2022. The incentive drop will occur in 2023 and it’s estimated that beginning in 2024, we’re going to see a decrease to 0% for homeowners. This offers even more incentive to consider the option of solar power installation. The commercial and utility markets will still receive the benefit of changing over to solar power with plans to deliver a 10% credit starting in January 2024.

There have been continuous reports of the ITC continuing to reduce the cost of solar energy credits and while these credits are still available it’s possible to enjoy sustainable forms of energy as well as a transition to cleaner energy that’s less expensive. In the coming years, it’s not possible to have the same opportunity to make solar power so affordable.

If you’ve been thinking about installing solar energy in your home, sign up this year to take advantage of the full benefits.
