People tend to ignore the crawlspace at their house. They see it as the part of the house that doesn’t require any attention. However, most of us use it to keep many things, such as tools, old plastic Christmas trees, and others. Without proper treatment, your items will be damaged because of moisture, heat, and other conditions. For that reason, you need to at least provide Crawlspace insulation for that area. Here, we have several tips you can use to insulate this area.

Add Drainage System

The water that comes from the object you put in the crawl space won’t go away without a proper drainage system. If you let this thing happen, it will only cause mold and other problems that can damage that object. Therefore, one of the most important things you must build in your crawl space before applying the insulation is the drainage system. It will improve the insulation performance and save more energy. You can use many types of drainage systems for crawl space, such as using drainage matting.

Applying the Correct Wall Insulation in Crawlspace Area

It is not only the wall. You also have to apply the insulation layer on the floor in the crawlspace area. For the insulation type, try a product that has a radiant barrier. It would be even better if that product also had the R-11 value feature. As for the floor, use the padded floor insulation for your convenience. This type of floor insulation is easy to install and doesn’t require too much energy.

By providing this combination, you can keep the crawl space area from the outdoor air. When the cold weather is coming, this area will keep warm and protect it from moisture that can cause mold. And, in summer, the temperature in the crawl space area also will be cool.

Choosing the Material for Insulation

As for the material, you will have various options available in the store. However, for the best result and protection, you can only choose the waterproof and mold-resistant type insulation. For that reason, the materials, like ridge board, cellulose, or spray foam are the best options you can take for crawl space insulation. You might be tempted to use fiberglass insulation as it said has better durability. But, for crawl space, fiberglass is not the best choice.

Seal Ventilation and Opening

Lastly, one more important thing you should do is sealing the ventilation and opening in the crawlspace area. This is important to protect the area from the outdoor air. Furthermore, it also preserves the air quality in this area. For better results, you can also use the vapor or moisture barrier. It will protect the crawlspace from many things that can damage the area, such as mold, flooding, odors, and others.

Conclusion

As you can see, you may have to ask help from a professional to install the insulation for your crawlspace area. Some of the methods we mentioned above are difficult to do without proper skill and knowledge. Therefore, use the best service that you can find in your area. Now, you are ready to install Crawlspace insulation.
