Increasing the Comfort in Your House

What exactly does a comfortable home mean to you? Is it expensive, plush furniture? Maybe its soft, warm colour schemes that make you feel relaxed. Essentially, anything that improves the liveability of your home makes it more comfortable. But whatever your relaxation tastes, there are a few things everybody can do to make their house more comfortable.

Getting rid of clutter

Clutter is the natural enemy of comfort. Are you often stepping over things, walking around unused furniture or constantly looking for lost items? The answer to most of your problems is de-cluttering. That means removing everything from your home that you don’t need. Or, alternatively, if you want to keep the items, finding appropriate storage.

So, one tip to improve the comfort of your home is to remove clutter. For very little cost, you can even buy some plastic tubs to use as storage. As long as you get unnecessary items out of your main living areas, it doesn’t matter where they go. You might even choose to have a garage sale and make a little extra money!

Proper insulation for a comfortable home

It’s hard to feel comfortable if you’re constantly battling to get the right temperature in your house. One of the reasons for this is poor home insulation. Air escapes through your floors, walls and ceiling, making it hard to keep warm in winter and cool in summer.

The answer is quality insulation. Installing batts in your roof cavity is a great first step, and it’s easy to do yourself. Walls can be a little more problematic, but if you don’t fancy tearing down plaster there’s a solution. Blow-in insulation only requires a few small holes that can be easily patched.

With the right home insulation, not only will you be more comfortable, but you’ll save plenty of dollars on energy costs.

Decrease the noise transfer

A noisy home isn’t terribly comfortable either. We learn to live with it, especially in busy households with children. But still, there are ways to decrease the transfer of noise through the home. Insulation actually helps here too, offering another sound barrier between walls. If you buy quality sound insulation for your walls, you can keep plenty of noise where it’s supposed to be.

Another option is carpet. Many people love polished floors, but with kids running around all day it can get extremely noisy. If that gets on your nerves, carpet cushions some of that noise, making everything that little bit more peaceful.

Use natural resources

Don’t forget about natural resources when trying to boost the comfort of your home. It’s different in all weather conditions, but if you’re out all day in summer, you can use windows to your advantage. If it gets cold in the afternoons or evenings, leave your blinds open and let the daytime sun warm your house while you’re at work. On the flipside, keep them closed if the summer sun is simply too hot and turns your home into a sauna.

Speaking of natural resources, water features in your outdoor areas can also provide some added relaxation. If you need a little more comfort in your everyday life, these ideas should help you out!
