Going French Provincial: Why You Should Try This Look For Your Home

Southern France in the 18th century is where French Provincial architecture originates from. You don’t have to live in this region to appreciate the simplistic beauty that this design type brings to the average home. In fact, French Provincial or Hamptons style is becoming a trend that’s appearing in many renovations today. Take a look at why you should consider this decor option as you update your home. The style will astound you and anyone who visits.

Start Small

There’s no need to overhaul your home with the French Provincial look. Begin your home’s transformation in the bedroom. It’s a closed-off space from visitors so that you can slowly work on your vision.

Start the project by choosing your colors. This style is defined by subtle shades of beige, white, gray and similar hues. Paint the bedroom in these colors while looking for soft linens to decorate your bed, chairs and other areas. Starting small encourages you to move ahead with your project without feeling overwhelmed.

Pricing Remains Affordable

You don’t need a lot of expensive items for a French Provincial style. In fact, you might have a lot of items hidden away in cabinets, such as white sheets and curtains. Adding furniture doesn’t have to be an investment either. Some people shop around thrift stores or start a woodworking project. Make this style your own by repurposing older items and being creative in your own right.

Minimalism is In

Shopping around for trinkets and figurines to decorate your home is time consuming and expensive. Many projects fail to be completed when too many details are required in the space. Try a French Provincial style because it depends on minimalism. Adding one or two furniture pieces to a space is all that’s necessary. Their style defines the room. Simply fill out the bedroom with comfortable linens so that rest is the priority.

Beauty is in the Details

With neutral colors and few art pieces in your room, the French Provincial style may not seem too exciting. However, the beauty is in the details. Shop around to find furniture pieces that have this Hamptons look. The style is defined by curved legs and feet on tables and chairs. In fact, you can complete the look with a French Provincial bedside tables. The simplicity of the room allows the furniture pieces to stand out in visitors’s minds.

DIY is Possible

When it comes to some decor choices, performing the renovations yourself is almost unheard of. The style is just too difficult to achieve on your own. French Provincial is different, however. The necessary colors for the room are all based on white and its derivatives. Any element within the space should have a soft tone, including the window treatments. It’s much easier to hang new curtains compared to customizing blinds across the windows, for example. Complete the project in small batches with no help from third parties. It’s your project to design and enjoy.

When you want to change any element of your home, remain consistent throughout the rooms. You might start with a French Provincial bedroom. Continue this style across the other spaces. When selling time arrives, you’ll have a stunning home that thrills every buyer.
