Don’t Store These Things in Your Garage
Our garages are often used for anything but our cars, and it pays to know what else you should, and more importantly should not, be keeping in your garage.
Don’t Chill Out
Plenty of us put our old fridge or freezer into the garage to give us a little bit of extra space to store food items we don’t need to access immediately from the kitchen. But a fridge in a garage will have to work harder to keep it contents cool because garages heat up quickly in summer and in winter face low temperatures that can disturb the regular working of your fridge. This will mean you use more electricity to power the fridge, so keep it out of the garage to save some money.
Other sorts of food storage should be kept out of the garage as well, so they don’t attract rodents. And canned foods have a shorter shelf life if they are kept in temperatures above 21 degrees for a longer period of time and will face nutrient loss as well. The temperature of a garage can be unpredictable, so keep canned goods in a cool cupboard indoors.

Don’t Go with the Grain
Wooden furniture can suffer when it is left in the cold, as damp will get into the grain and underneath varnish and badly affect the quality of the piece. Keep wood furniture in a warmer, dryer place like an attic instead.
Don’t Bottle It
According to The Spruce, anything that could ignite such as a gas canister should not be stored in a garage. Instead, gas bottles should be kept in well-ventilated areas with some weather protection.
Don’t Leave It in a Mess
The extra space in your garage can feel like a solution to a cluttered home, but don’t just shove all your unwanted stuff into the garage in a messy pile. Garage Shelving can help you organise your unused stuff, and a Garage Shelving Company can help you maintain order and safety in your garage.
It’s not worth letting things that have memories and emotions attached to them suffer by storing them in your garage, but with some careful use of space the garage can be a handy extra room in your home. If all else fails, it’s a great place to park your car.
