4 Interesting Facts about Tradition and Habit in Amish Community

Many of us might know Amish as a secluded community in various places in the states. They reject modern culture and technology and live with their unique lifestyle. In reality, they are more than that. For that reason, we have made this article for you. Below, you can find several unique things and facts about Amish people that most of us didn’t know.

Daily Transportation

Amish people don’t use modern transportation. If you visit Lancaster, PA, you can see many of them ride a horse to travel from place to place. Or, they also walk without using a car, motorcycle, or any modern transportation that you use daily.

This tradition also is applied to their farm. They do not use tractors to plough the field. Everything was done manually, using a horse or other animal. Despite that no-modern-transportation tradition, you can find them riding it, as long the driver is not from the Amish community. That is what Amish daily transportation is all about.

Rumspringa

Amish people also have a unique tradition called Rumspringa. It is the tradition where you have to decide which path you choose for your future. This event happens between 14 and 18 years old. In this period, the teenager has to decide whether they leave the Amish community and enter the modern world, which they called the English world.

Or, they also can stay and return to the Amish community after traveling outside. If they decide to return, they have to dedicate themselves to the Amish community. They have to follow all the rules and traditions. Those who choose this option will get baptized, which is proof of their dedication as Amish.

Amish People Vacation

Many people think that Amish people are secluded and don’t want to see the outside world. In reality, they do have a vacation activity. They leave their community temporarily to relax and have fun. Of course, they keep their tradition and culture while being outside of the community.

One of the most popular destinations for their vacation is Pinecraft, FL. Many Amish people visit this place to do various activities. Locals even call this place the Amish Las Vegas. Therefore, if you want to see and communicate with them, you can visit this place.

Facial Hair

One of the Amish old traditions is growing facial hair. In this case, they grow a beard. It is affected by the tradition that has been around since biblical times. Moreover, the beard also represents manhood and adult age. Therefore, many younger people in the Amish community don’t grow a beard, until they are ready to marry. The beard-less Amish is also well-known as those who wait for a marriage partner.

Conclusion

If we had to tell you all the unique facts and things about Amish people, one article wouldn’t be enough. There are so many interesting cultures, traditions, habits, and ways of life that this community has. You can visit an online Amish school, where you can especially learn more about Amish. That’s everything that you need to know about Amish unique facts.
