Finding Reliable Sewer Repair the Right Way

Having a broken sewer line stinks. Not only is it a costly experience, but it can also be dangerous. Damaged sewer lines pollute, spread disease, and they also damage property. On top of all this they smell absolutely awful. Luckily, good sewer repair can fix the problem and ensure that you never have to endure it again. The only trick is finding good sewer repair. In order to separate the good from the bad it is necessary to do some research first.

Get Referrals

The first place to look is always close to home. Some of your friends and family may have had their sewer repaired before. This would give them insight into a good contractor or plumber that provides good service. As it is first-hand information it is a lot more reliable than an internet search. They can also warn you away from bad service, if that happens to be what they experienced, making your search much easier. Additionally, they can offer you insight into how the process works and what specifically you should be looking for.

Research

You do not just want to vet the contractors, because this may miss a vital factor. There are two different types of sewer repair: trenchless and traditional. Traditional sewer repair breaks ground and digs down to the pipe in order to fix it. Trenchless repair uses new technology to fix the pipe without damaging the ground around it. Many companies specialize in both, but if you have a preference ensure the company you look at specializes in it. Trenchless can be faster but it cannot repair every type of damage.

When looking for a contractor online pay attention to the reviews. Good service breeds satisfied customers and positive feedback. Bad service is surrounded by unhappy customers and ranting unhappy tirades. Sites like the BBB also offer ratings systems that can help pinpoint good service.

Experience

Always look for experience. Companies that have years logged in sewer repair are ideal. They know the business, they are used to the process, they have made mistakes, they have learned from those mistakes, and they are reliable. New companies are still in the learning phase and that can be too risky. Look for experience not just in the company but in the contractors. A new company may use a veteran contractor, just like a older company may be using a new hire.

Check Credentials

Reliable contractors will have proper licensing, bonds, and insurance. This allows them to operate in your area freely, and also protects you in the case of a accident. If the worst does happen it is horrible when you find you are not covered. This makes you liable for repairs as well as damage done to the contractors. Proper insurance provides a shield for this, and pays you back for any damages. It is also a good sign of validity. Shady contractors will not have proper licensing. Either that or their insurance will not be adequate.
