construction process for a standard home

The project of building a house is not as easy as it seems. There is a long process before seeing the final product, that is the actual house. Builders like Why Contracting Limited can help you to understand it and even guide you later with renovation works in Edmonton.

Table of Contents

  • First phase
  • Second phase
  • Third phase
  • Fourth phase
  • Fifth phase

First phase

As you must know before any sorts of building can start the plans of your future home must be drawn and sent to the permit office. A permit is not only needed for the building process, but also for the other work such as plumbing, septic system, electricity and waste water connection. In addition, the construction site will need to be examined to see whether any adjustments may be needed for the building plans.

Second phase

Construction begins when the land is being prepared for the foundation phase. The ground will be excavated, and the substructure of the foundation walls will be formed and placed. During this phase, the electricity and water services may be called upon. Concrete blocks or other materials may be used for the foundation walls. This is followed by the insulation and damp-proofing of the foundation.

In order to avoid ground moisture, drainage will be set up. Before the next phase can be undertaken, a municipal inspection will have to be carried out. And the construction expert in Edmonton will need you to start finalizing your choice with regards to flooring, tiles, roofing, cupboards and other details.

Third phase

At this stage, the framework of the house is erected, meaning the peripheral walls, interior panels and the roof. Then the windows and doors of the house can be fitted. What also happens during this phase is the installation of the floor as well as the rough-ins and ducting of the electrical and plumbing systems. To confirm that the building codes have been complied with, a structural inspection needs to be completed.

Fourth phase

After the structural inspection by the municipality, the fourth stage takes place. This entails the insulation of the exterior walls and the roof. It is time to install the heating system too. Afterwards the house can be painted, the flooring can be placed, the kitchen and bathroom cupboards can be fitted. It’s a stage that encompasses many works at the same time. So, plumbing and electrical fittings will be installed along with room doors. Moreover, the outside fixtures will be installed such as the porch, sundeck, and the driveway. Once all the interior works have been done the house will be ready for inspection.

Fifth phase

When you get to this stage, it may be time to start packing your boxes because the house will be ready soon. Your building contractor, like Why Contracting Limited, will be busy working on the finishing touches and he will ask you to come check and see if there are any adjustments to be made before you are handed the keys. During this visit he can show you how the systems of the house function and how to keep them in good working order.
