What’s Next After You Move Into a New Home

Moving into a new home can be stressful, overwhelming, and downright exhausting, but just hang in there and all the stress and activity eventually ends. Now you might be asking yourself, what happens next after you’ve made the big move? Here are some of the things you should in the first few weeks after you move into a new home:

Have a Housewarming Party

Don’t feel pressured to throw a housewarming party immediately. It’s perfectly acceptable to wait a few weeks until you’ve gotten all settled into your new home. But a housewarming party is always a great way to make your move official, and to meet your new neighbors and start setting down roots. After the stress of your move, probably the last thing you’ll want to do is plan an elaborate party. Keep it simple; consider making it a potluck party, and rent a photo booth from thephotofactory.co to take care of photography and entertainment.

A photo booth is a great way to start making memories in your new home. Photo booth pictures also make great souvenirs for your guests to take home with them. A top New York City photo booth rental like The Photo Factory also offers value added services like a social sharing station and photo booth butlers, so you’ll definitely be getting your money’s worth.

Get to Know Your New Neighborhood

Spend the first few weeks exploring your new neighborhood and getting to know your neighbors. Learn where the nearest grocery store is, as well as the hospital, ATMs, and the like. Try and eat out often to find out where the best restaurants are, or which ones offer delivery services. Getting to know your new neighborhood will help you feel settled sooner, and help you get back into a routine that much faster.

Let People Know

You might not have had the chance to do so before your move, but once you’ve gotten settled in, it’s time to let people know you’ve moved. Let close friends and family know your new address and phone number, and be sure to update your mailing address so you continue to get all your bills on time. These days, updating everyone is as easy as sending a group email or posting a Facebook status, so you won’t have to text or call people individually.

Get Back into a Routine

The process of selling your house and buying a new one, then packing and moving can all be very unsettling and make you feel a little disoriented and transplanted. Get back into your regular routine as soon as you can after your move, to make you feel less lost and more at home. If you used to always jog in the morning, establish a route in your new neighborhood. Do your weekly groceries as usual, enroll in a gym class, whatever you need to get your life back on track after the chaos of moving.

Do these things during your first few weeks in your new place, and it will very soon start to feel less like a house and more like a real home.
