5 tips to keep your basement dry throughout the year

Not all the houses host basements, but those who do, they know how beneficial they are and how they can be used throughout the year for various purposes. But one thing that we would like to tell you about the basements, is that they need care and they ask for regular checkups and preventive maintenance measures in order to function properly.

What makes the basement most challenging, is to keep it dry all the time because it is bound to get wet in one way or another and a wet basement means that the foundation of the house is going wet, which could consequently weaken the structure of the house.

Therefore, if you have a basement at home, you need to keep it dry and learn all the hacks for keeping your basement super dry all the times. So here are your tips for an exceptionally dry basement.

  1. Check for the water flow

In order to keep a basement dry, you need to check the flow of water from your house. the water should flow away from the house, not towards and if it flows towards the house, it will start forming puddles around the foundation of the house, causing the foundation to get wet, resulting damage to the infrastructure.

  1. Install gutters and down sprouts

One thing about the accumulation of water is the reason that there is no proper drainage for all the water collecting around the house after rain and molten snow. Therefore, you must get some good gutters and down sprouts to collect the surplus water coming from the roof and from the yard as well. this will help water flow away from the house, keeping the foundation dry all the time.

  1. Water resistant paints

Many a times, the water can seep through the walls of the basement and make then get wet. It will make the basement Chicago to lose its strength and get the water accumulated in the wall. So using a water resistant paint is something that can give you dry walls throughout the year.

  1. Make use of a dehumidifier

Dehumidifier is a device that is used to absorb moisture and humidity from the air. It is good for keeping the house walls and the foundation dry. So if you are facing the wet basement issues, you can always get a humidifier to work on it and depending upon the size of your basement, you might need more than one of these devices.

  1. Use rocks and gravel

The rocks and the gravel are known for drying out the excess amount of water and absorbing water as well. these rocks, when places around the periphery of the basement, can absorb water and then get dried quickly. This is a pocket friendly approach and if the rocks are placed with some good aesthetics, they are bound to give your house a beautiful appeal as well.
