Wonderful Windows of the World (and beyond)

You might not think about your windows a huge amount, other than when you notice they could do with a clean. Where would we be without them though? Sat in the dark with no views to look at or be inspired by. We’d also get pretty hot and uncomfortable during the summer months! We all need to love our windows, and this is a celebration of all things glassy, with a tribute to some of the world’s most inspiring and impressive windows:
To see the world’s biggest piece of curved glass, you’d have to head for Apple’s incredible spaceship-shaped campus. More than 3,000 huge curved panes are being installed as walls on either side of the four-storey building. The entire construction will measure at more than 1 mile all around. The structure is using over 6 km of glass, the panes being positioned by a manipulating machine of 21m in height. The panes are raised up and workers then fasten each piece in position. Solar panels have also been placed right across the roof space, making this one of the most environmentally-friendly and sustainable modern buildings in the world.
Although highly contested, the claim for having the biggest window in the world goes to the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France. The colossal south window measures almost 13m in diameter and consists of 84 individual panes of glass. It is a stunningly beautiful window of awe-inspiring magnitude that dates back to the 13th century.
Now, there aren’t too many windows in space, so this window didn’t have much competition. However, the largest window in space is called Capula and lives on the International Space Station. It is a domed viewing area measuring 2.95m and 1.5m high. Imagine the spectacular views that you’d witness gazing out of this strong glass! This has got to be the best view anywhere. Perhaps you could have a view to rival this one with windows and doors from a Tewkesbury Double Glazing Company like https://www.firmfix.co.uk/doors/
One of the largest stained-glass windows on earth can be seen at the Resurrection Cemetery in a place called Justice, Illinois. The breath-taking window measures 22,000 square feet of colourful stained-glass. Stunning by day, the mausoleum is still said to be haunted by night after a hitch hiker allegedly disappeared from right outside the building!
For something a little bit fishy, you’d be amazed by the HengqinChimelongOcean Kingdom in China. Not only do they display a huge amount of colourful sea creatures, but it happens to be the largest aquarium window in the world too. The massive glass panel measures almost 40m by 9m. In fact, this visitor attraction boasts a number of different records. It is the world’s largest aquarium, with the world’s biggest tank and thus has the world’s largest glass panel in its underwater viewing dome.
